Autoresponder Success Tips
I have watched many businesses drop thousands of dollars in advertising
for promotional campaigns that simply did not work. Sure... people came
to their web site and even took a look around. But they didn't buy anything.
Has this ever happened to you? You can see that people are visiting your
site but those visitors don't convert to customers. They leave and go on
to other sites, get distracted by co-workers, the dog, the view outside
their window...
The secret to converting those visitors into sales is so simple it's almost
hard to believe. The simple truth is that if you want to convert your web site
to a sales converting, profit generating machine, there is one thing you
absolutely MUST start doing today.
Simply put... you must stay in touch.
Years ago, I worked for a Financial Services company. We focused our efforts
primarily on attracting business in the Houston area. One day, I got a phone
call from a prospect in Tennessee. We talked for a while. I answered her
questions and even though I knew we had competitors in her area, I sent out
an information packet.
A few days later, I made a phone call to see if she got the packet, if she
had any more questions, etc...
She asked me to send a contract and we signed her as a client. My commissions
on that account ranged from a few hundred dollars per month to a few thousand
dollars per month for the next few years.
After a few months of doing business together, I asked her, "I know we have
competitors just down the road from you. Can I ask why you chose to do
business with us?"
Her reply was simple.... "You called me back".
Another company that does exactly what we were doing was just minutes
away from her. She chose us (hundreds of miles away) because we simply
stayed in touch.
How much business are you losing because you don't stay in touch with
potential clients?
"So... How Do I Stay In Touch?"
Somewhere along the line, we started believing that the way to generate
online sales was to get people to our web site. Personally, I believe
the better approach is to get people to subscribe to your Autoresponder.
For example, your online ad could direct people to send a blank email
to your autoresponder subscription address or you could create what is
called a "capture page" where folks can request free information by
entering their name and email address.
Your Autoresponder can be set up to automatically reply with a pre-written
message that thanks them for requesting your information and include a link
to your web site for more information.
By using this method, your Autoresponder is doing two things:
- Qualifying your web site visitors.
- Building a quality list of targeted prospects for your offer.
Your Autoresponder can be set up to send your qualified prospects
more follow up letters. Perhaps your next message goes out a day or
two later. Again... thanking them for requesting your information,
telling them a little bit more about your offer, and including a link
to your web site where they can learn more and hopefully order.
This second letter (and the rest of your follow up letters) should
tell them a little more about the benefits of your offer and help
them make the decision to purchase from you.
If possible, consider a trial offer or other special incentives in
your follow up messages.
"How Do I Follow Up With Prospects That Visit My Site Directly?"
You've probably already got people visiting your site so the next
step is to add a simple capture form directly to your web site and
offer visitors an attention-grabbing offer of free information.
For example, if you are selling a weight-loss product, you might
offer a Free Report called "Secrets To Losing More Weight Faster
Than You Ever Thought Possible".
If you are selling information on helping business start-ups, you
might create a Free Report called "Secrets The Business Schools
Don't Teach And How To Profit From Your Own Business".
The report can be a simple two or three page report that shows
visitors how to benefit from your offer, why they need to order
from you, and whey they need to order right now (time-sensitive).
The key here is to offer something that will stop your web site
visitors dead in their track and practically force them to hand
over their email address by filling in a short form on your web site.
Once they do, they are now subscribed to your Autoresponder and you
can begin following up with them.
You could follow up with them ever day, every 2 days, every week, mix
up the time between follow up letters, etc....
The key is to get subscribers in to your Autoresponder and beging
following up with them to convert them to customers.
